Although a Secure Space is not intended to protect its occupants in the event of a earthquake, house/environmental fire or a flood, it can be beneficial for both protection of valuables during, and occupation after such an event. A Secure Space can also be designed for immediate aftershocks and other threats that may exist during a time of reconstruction. This package includes provisions for protection and long-term occupation under these circumstances. Also included are provisions for independent evacuation.
These threats require an additional layer of protection consisting primarily of air filtration and radiation shielding. Detection of these elements and procedures for decontamination are also critical for maintaining the health and safety of the Secure Space occupants.
Although, Secure Spaces does not recommend above ground shelters if designing for a nuclear blast, we provide links to prefabricated, underground shelters, if you desire such protection. This approach, however, limits use of the shelter for other threats that may exist.
